Blog 12

This is my last blog post and even though ESOC is not over, I feel as though I have learned a ton and understand more about collaboration in online communities. On Tuesday we discussed our assigned reading called The Tweaker: The Real Genius of Steve Jobs.

In this article I learned all about his life. I find it interesting that Steve had a difficult time furnishing and decorating his house because he loved perfection. All of his apple products took years to make and he was constantly looking to prefect everything he started. He started with the very first IPhone and now we have the IPhone 7 which can do pretty much everything needed. However, he wasn’t the maker of the products, Jonathon Ive was. Ive was the designer behind iMac, the iPod, and the iPhone. Jobs was the judge of all the products and critiqued everything Ive did. However, he was the one on stage announcing products and taking credit for everything. Jobs was known for taking peoples ideas and making them better, but if he is making the products better than I think he should be given the credit because in the end he made the products bigger and better. Its interesting though because all over the internet it says he was the inventor, businessman, and entrepreneur. I believe in the end he made other peoples ideas better and that is why he was known for being the man he is today.

In class we also formed our Unit 2 projects. I will be working with Davis Berryhill, Hillary Goldman, and Carly Levy. Our project is on gay marriage. Our way of campaigning was creating an Instagram account where we have posted uplifting pictures and saying. Our goal is to have famous gay celebrities or people who support gay marriage use or hashtag for spreadability. Our video looks great too.

I have learned so much in the class and have become a better collaborator. From our two group projects I had to learn how to equally distribute work among all my group members. I normally overpower group projects and like to control. However, I think I did a great job letting everyone participate.

I really enjoyed this class that I have decided to become a double major in E-society and Communication. I can't wait for all my fun classes to come!
